Sea Life "Captured"

The sand and the ocean waves can wash amazing things to the shore.  Just walking along the shore you will wash your feet in the foamy waves lapping the shore.   You may sink your feet into the sand.   You may dig up shells hidden there for you to find.  This is cotton and wool fibers on cotton fabric.   The shells are "captured" under net.   

Canyon Walls "Captured"

The walls of a canyon capture rocks, trees and various plant life.   In the summer the heat warms the walls and encourages the seeds to sprout.  As the plants grow they split the rocks and they tumble down.   I have used cotton, and wool yarn and cotton fabric.   The rocks are "captured" under net to hold them in place.  

Winter's Memory "Captured"

This winter Missouri had a cold 5 months.   Winter is drab and the colors are monotone grey.   The trees are sleeping and the earth is covered with snow and ice.  The grass is dead and the flowers are gone.    I  was trying  to reproduce what this looks like in this series I call "Captured".    The rocks are captured under net and heled against the grey earth.    

Ten Moons of Persia (sorry I'm sold)

The Ten Moons of Persia is a mix if exotic fabric and beads blended to remind me of a beautiful Persian rug.   I especially love the Persian blue color.  This is the only photo I have to remind me of this piece.   It sold the first day it was displayed at Waverly.

Our Vibrant Earth ( at Waverly House)

Our Vibrant Earth is made of recycled  silk from the factories in India that make the women's clothing called Saris.   The  proceeds from my purchase go to provide Safe Shelter, Health Care and Education to Women in Nepal.

This piece of art represents the various stratus of our earth.   It starts with the brown earth, the water in the rivers and streams and ocean, the green forest and savannas, the hot and dry deserts, to the purple mountains and the air and clouds above.    

Sea Shells by the Sea Shore (Sorry, I am Sold.)

I went to California in September and got to put my feet in the Pacific Ocean again.   This is how I remember that day.   Waves washing to the shore and the foamy water left behind as the tide reveals the shells.   It was such a peaceful day with not a care in the world.   Just like a vacation should be.

Sweet Potato Vine. (at Waverly House)

Intense greens and blues with a punch of berry are the colors I chose to show you how the Sweet Potato Vine grows around my patio.  This prolific vine is just here for the summer.  So are the butterflies.  So I thought I would make sure I remember what they look like when the cold winter months come calling.
This sweetie was first seen at Waverly Gallery Meet the Artist Last Friday night.  

Muffin on the quilt

Yes I have a kitty and yes she owns the house.  That is just the way it is with cats.   They own you,,,,,,you do not own them.   Here she in on my hand appliqued quilt.   She looks like she approves.  I occasionally make traditional quilts but this is the first full size hand appliqued quilt that I have made.   The process took 7 years to complete the 9 blocks so I will not be selling it any time soon.   I still do not have it quilted yet.   Another 7 years check back with me.

Midnight Garden

If you walk out in my garden at night this is what you will find.   A profusion of colorful flowers mixed with the weeds and the dark night sky.   It is such a joy to see  summer greeting us with warm nights and abundant color.

Wild, Green Eyed Girl

I took a class several years ago   by Jason Polock.  Each person in the class made a curved or straight line on the paper.  After about 12 people "made there mark"  this is what I got back.  
I really liked the Picasso like effect and kept the paper.   This month I finally got around to making a pattern and finally completed the Art Quilt today.

 This happy face is my husband Ted.   He won Chancellor's Choice Trophy at Ozark Technical Community College Car Show today.

This is the car that won the trophy for him.   As you can see the trophy is huge, over 6 feet tall.   The car is an 1966 Mercury Montery S55 Convertible.     We do have lots of fun in it.

This is my latest textile to be entered in Waverly House Spring show entitled Untamed.   I hope I get into the show.  Even if I do not get accepted  I just love him hanging in my sewing room.   He is watching me every day as I work on my next project.  

The sunsets are great in Arizona. I had fun in the sun and went to lots of quilt shops and shows until I broke my ankle. But I have lots of photos and lots of new ideas for new art quilts. So stay in touch.

Copper Canyon Fossils ( sorry I am sold)

I am getting ready to go to Arizona for the month of January to warm up. I remember the last time I was there I was way out in the canyon and found fossils just laying around.

Ladies Choice

I have been working on this since the summer and was inspired by our Morning Glory's. One day I was looking at the Morning Glory and discovered they were being surrounded by lady bugs. We were all out early and enjoying the morning sun.
This is currently in the Sky Line Challenge at Ozark Peacemakers Quilt Show.

Spring Meadow

I know it is winter but last month we planter over 300 tulip and daffodil bulbs. I was thinking of spring and what it will look like when all these bulbs push their way through the earth.

Molten Sea (Sorry, I'm SOLD)

I have felt inspired for this textile after viewing photos of my daughter, Teresa's, photos of the active valcaano in Hawaii. I call it the Molten Sea. It is my idea of what the ocean might look as molten lave pours into is from a volcano. I used 4 fabrics and Ricky Tim's Harmonic Convergence idea to accomplish this look. I have added lot of original ideas and fabric to give you the feel of the ocean.

This textile was accepted in a show at Waverly House Gifts & Gallery to run form November 4, 2011 to December 17, 2011. The show is "Journeys" and will benefit A Sporting Chance.

I have not been a complete flake this summer. I have been doing a few Art Quilts worth posting on my blog. I have not felt especially creative so I have been using other Quilt Artist as an inspiration. This wonderful bright orange Pod Grass is inspired by an article in Quilting Arts Magazine by Laura Wasiloski. She calls it Zen Doodle Quilts. I had lots of fun freely creating flowing lines and circles to quilt around.



This lovely cone flower is from a class I took from Ruth Powers. I had lots of fun in the class and finally finished it today. I have cone flowers in my back yard and I can say they look like this so I am very happy with this pattern. I hope you enjoy it also.

Two from Figi

A few months ago My daughter, Teresa, went to Fiji for a much needed, get away from it all, vacation. She was thinking of me and sent me lots of fabric from local markets and shops. So here are two from the Fiji Fabric and some from my stash.
I will be sending her both. One for her to keep and one to send to their hostess for their home in Fiji.

Desert Abstract

I went to Green Valley for a month to warm up and painted this. The desert is beautiful in the spring. So much clear color and flowers you can no help but be inspired.
