I have been fortunate to have two pieces accepted.

Every winter the lime stone rock that have been cut to make room for the freeway and roads into town have water weeping from them.   As the days get colder the ice forms.  They look like Ice Sentinels along the freeway into town.  Ever since I moved her this winter phenomenon has fascinated me.  They are so beautiful.

Show Me The Path

Springfield Missouri is a small enough town to know almost everyone and large enough to offer a lot of opportunities.  If you are lucky enough to be borne and or raised here there are many paths open to you if only someone shows you the way.  Some paths take you away, some lead you right back home.  Some path are fraught with tangles and wrong turns.  Some paths are an outdoor adventure.  Some are a good foundation and education to make your dreams come true.  But we all need someone to show us the way or the path in life.

This is my version of having a Local Identity.

Sorry I have not had time to post for a while.   I am getting ready for a three person show at Waverly Gallery in October 1014.

Sea Life 18 X 20 At Waverly House

This is called Sea lift because if you look closely you will see shells and the sand and ocean waves.
This work was accepted into the juried show starting today June 7, 2013 at Waverly.   It is part of my "Captured " series.  

New Galaxy At Waverly June 7 , 2013

This is a preview of my work effective June 7, 2013.  It was juried into a show called
 " Inner Spaces, Outer Limits"
This is  hand dyed, whole cloth, 100% cotton.  Look closely, it has glass beads exploding from the molten inter core.

Winter's Bonfiree

When the snow is falling outside there is nothing like a bonfire to warm  up.
This is two pieces of art in one.   The under layer is flat, abstract art quilt.  the upper layer is  3 dimensional .  Their are silk, cotton and polyester pieces tied to the white cotton terry strips.

This can be viewed in person at Waverly House, Springfield, Mo.

"Captured" a series

The following 4 abstract pieces are part of a series called "Captured".    I have attempted to capture objects onto the fabric.   I used black net or  to hold them in place exactly where I wanted them.   Then I sewed around the objects and over the net.  
I am through with this series for now.   But I had such fun with them I am sure I will return to this method in the future.   All of these pieces can be seen at Waverly House, in Springfield, Mo.

Coral Reef "Captured"

Have you ever been to a tropical island?   The water is warm the sand is littered with shells.   The reefs are alive with growing coral.  The beautiful  coral  is transformed into jewelry for the fish.
This is cotton fabric quilted to resemble the foamy tide and the coral reef.   The shells are "Captured" under net.   

Sea Life "Captured"

The sand and the ocean waves can wash amazing things to the shore.  Just walking along the shore you will wash your feet in the foamy waves lapping the shore.   You may sink your feet into the sand.   You may dig up shells hidden there for you to find.  This is cotton and wool fibers on cotton fabric.   The shells are "captured" under net.   

Canyon Walls "Captured"

The walls of a canyon capture rocks, trees and various plant life.   In the summer the heat warms the walls and encourages the seeds to sprout.  As the plants grow they split the rocks and they tumble down.   I have used cotton, and wool yarn and cotton fabric.   The rocks are "captured" under net to hold them in place.  

Winter's Memory "Captured"

This winter Missouri had a cold 5 months.   Winter is drab and the colors are monotone grey.   The trees are sleeping and the earth is covered with snow and ice.  The grass is dead and the flowers are gone.    I  was trying  to reproduce what this looks like in this series I call "Captured".    The rocks are captured under net and heled against the grey earth.    

Ten Moons of Persia (sorry I'm sold)

The Ten Moons of Persia is a mix if exotic fabric and beads blended to remind me of a beautiful Persian rug.   I especially love the Persian blue color.  This is the only photo I have to remind me of this piece.   It sold the first day it was displayed at Waverly.

Our Vibrant Earth ( at Waverly House)

Our Vibrant Earth is made of recycled  silk from the factories in India that make the women's clothing called Saris.   The  proceeds from my purchase go to provide Safe Shelter, Health Care and Education to Women in Nepal.

This piece of art represents the various stratus of our earth.   It starts with the brown earth, the water in the rivers and streams and ocean, the green forest and savannas, the hot and dry deserts, to the purple mountains and the air and clouds above.    

Sea Shells by the Sea Shore (Sorry, I am Sold.)

I went to California in September and got to put my feet in the Pacific Ocean again.   This is how I remember that day.   Waves washing to the shore and the foamy water left behind as the tide reveals the shells.   It was such a peaceful day with not a care in the world.   Just like a vacation should be.

Sweet Potato Vine. (at Waverly House)

Intense greens and blues with a punch of berry are the colors I chose to show you how the Sweet Potato Vine grows around my patio.  This prolific vine is just here for the summer.  So are the butterflies.  So I thought I would make sure I remember what they look like when the cold winter months come calling.
This sweetie was first seen at Waverly Gallery Meet the Artist Last Friday night.  

Muffin on the quilt

Yes I have a kitty and yes she owns the house.  That is just the way it is with cats.   They own you,,,,,,you do not own them.   Here she in on my hand appliqued quilt.   She looks like she approves.  I occasionally make traditional quilts but this is the first full size hand appliqued quilt that I have made.   The process took 7 years to complete the 9 blocks so I will not be selling it any time soon.   I still do not have it quilted yet.   Another 7 years check back with me.

Midnight Garden

If you walk out in my garden at night this is what you will find.   A profusion of colorful flowers mixed with the weeds and the dark night sky.   It is such a joy to see  summer greeting us with warm nights and abundant color.
